About the Royal York Hotel Toronto
The Royal York Hotel, or to give the hotel its official name, the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, is a grand part of the Toronto skyline, set just back from the harbour on Lake Ontario. The four-star hotel was built in 1929 by the Canadian Pacific Railroad Company, and for a short while the 28-storey structure held the distinction of being the tallest building in the British Empire. As Toronto grew the Royal York was eclipsed by larger and larger skyscrapers, but today remains a landmark building in the downtown area of the city.
